EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES

Specialists work with families to design, implement or modify Babynet Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children from birth to three years of age or DDSN Family Service Plan (FSP), for children three to six years of age. These educational blueprints reflect the desires of the family and recommendations of other professionals such as physicians and therapists to see your child successfully transition to school. Your Early Interventionist can work with you at home, daycare, or any natural environment setting. These services are provided at no charge under Babynet / DDSN.

1

Special Instruction / Family Training

Cognitive, social-emotional, and self-help skill delays, as well as fine motor, gross motor, and communication skills are addressed with the goal of raising your child's performance to an age-appropriate level.

Therapy

Professionally licensed therapy services (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy) are available for those children who would benefit. Private insurance, Medicaid, and Babynet may cover the costs of these services.

5

Assessment / IFSP/ FSP

Your child is assessed at a minimum every six months to determine their progress towards age-appropriate skill / behavioral levels. The Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is a written document that outlines the  services that your child and family will receive. One guiding principal of the IFSP is that the family is a child’s greatest resource and that a young child’s needs are closely tied to the needs of his or her family.

Play Groups

Play dates give your child an opportunity to play with others and expand your support network. Social interaction is vital to the development of a healthy, happy child. Children learn from each other and their interactions, as they naturally crave the social interaction with others. Contact your Early Interventionists for Play Groups in your area or better yet - create your own with our help!

9

Research

Your Early Interventionist is a college educated professional who will systematically investigate any concern you may have and will seek advice from specialists across the state to answer your questions. We also work closely with the University of South Carolina and the Greenwood Genetics Center.

2

Case Management / Service Coordination

Your Early Interventionist works in partnership with you to ensure access to a full array of community, medical, and social services and monitors the provision of these services as your agent.

4

Intake

As your child approaches age three, we compile the necessary information to facilitate an application for free government services designed to assist the developmentally-delayed child and their families. The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) (DDSN) is the state agency that provides services to children and adults with, lifelong disabilities.

6

Developmental Activities

Your Early Interventionist uses fun and easy activities help stimulate your child's development — and bring on some adorable smiles and giggles. And remember, much of your child's learning in their first years will happen as you talk, read, interact, and engage with them every day. Please share your child's favorite simple playtime activities with us!

8

Transition to School

School transition is a process that prepares children, families, schools, and communities to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and relationships to assist students in successfully moving from one educational setting to another. We work with local educators to  inform and effectively involve students and families in the transition planning process. The Early Interventionist is your advocate!
